When should I use the LITE range?

When should I use the LITE range?

Temperature control is very important when it comes to your baby. The best way to check your baby’s temperature is in both ears - not just one! - to determine an average as they can fluctuate.

Then, you must determine the temperature of the room. We recommend placing your thermometer down in the center of their sleeping space. Higher up in the atmosphere there can be more movement from AC and drafts that are unaccounted for, so it is best to record exactly the area your little one will be in.

Once you know the temperature of your baby’s sleep space you can decide how to dress them for bed. In clothing, we call the thickness of an item the TOG rating. TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) is the unit of measurement that shows the thermal insulation of a product. The higher the TOG, the warmer the product.

In the Middle East, as we have typically warmer climates, we usually deal with 0.2 and 1.0 TOG items, with 1.0 being the most common. We must remember that with our ACs set, we generally have very well temperatured rooms, and therefore the baby is not as warm as you can imagine based on the world outside.

So where does the 0.2 TOG come in handy? Well, when traveling around the world, particularly in the summer months, you may find that you end up in hotel rooms and family homes that are NOT airconned to the extent we are here. Suddenly, the room temperature is a little bit higher than your baby is used to.

We recommend taking your thermometer with you so that you can assess your new surroundings, and then following the guide below to see if you should switch to a 0.2 TOG item:

To help parents understand which TOG values are right for differing room temperatures, a set of guidelines has been established as per below:

  • 0.2 TOG – ideal for room temperatures between 24°C and 27°C
  • 1.0 TOG – ideal for room temperatures between 20°C to 24°C
  • 2.5 TOG – ideal for room temperatures between 16°C to 20°C
  • 3.5 TOG – ideal for room temperatures below 16°C

And there is no need to lose your established swaddling routine! 0.2 TOG LITE swaddles work in exactly the same way as the 1.0 Original swaddles, they are just slightly thinner.

The SWADDLE UP™ Lite 0.2 TOG is made from a finely woven, ultra-light, single layer of 97% cotton and 3% elastane.

The 0.2 TOG material is 30% lighter than the SWADDLE UP™ ORIGINAL 1.0 TOG, highly breathable and ideal for warm temperatures.
